The calculator answers one step. This answers the real question: given the Pals you already own, what is the shortest chain of eggs to the one you want?

Each step is a single pairing, solved with the same maths as the breeding calculator — so a route here can never disagree with a single-step result there.
If no route exists, it is almost always the same reason: the game averages breed ranks, so you can never breed above your highest-ranked parent. Legendaries have to be caught before they can be bred.
